This Spring, the 15th Annual Cosmos Star Party will take place in the rural and secluded surroundings of Annaharvey Equestrian Farm. This location afford TAS many advantages, such as being 3 miles from Tullamore on the Portarlington Road, and thus away from most of the light pollution, private surroundings, secure location, and overall a great relaxed atmosphere.
The speakers include:
Seanie Morris, well-known amateur astronomer, from Tullamore Astronomical Society
"Cosmic Dust: Is that all we are?"
Dave Grennan, avid astrophotorapher, from Astronomy Ireland and South Dublin Astronomical Society
"Digital Astrophotography"
Tony O'Hanlon, long-time amateur astronomer, from Shannonside Astronomy Club
"Carbon Stars: Cool Stellar Dudes"
Tom Bonner, another long-time amateur astronomer, from Cork Astronomy Club
"From Under the Shadow of Newton"
Prof. Niall ÓMurchadha, Dept. of Physics, University College Cork
"Searching for Gravitational Waves"
Sean McKenna, long-time member, and co-founder, of Tullamore Astronomical Society
"Amateur Radio Astronomy in action"
Deirdre Kelleghan, Irish Astronomical Society
"Sketching from the Eyepiece"
The weekend consists of an agenda of talks by the various speakers, broken by tea-breaks, and lunches. Throughout the weekend there are displays and exhibits, the odd astro buy and sell, and plenty of time to relax and catch up with fellow friends and enthusiasts. Experts and experienced amateurs are available to share knowledge and give tips. Weather permitting, there will be observing from the darkened grounds surrounding the venue. There is also the Cosmic Dinner on Saturday night (limited places, c.35). To bring some competitive fun, we have a Table Quiz on Saturday afternoon, and there wil also be the chance to purchase raffle tickets for some worthy spot-prizes, held on Sunday.
